Section 5

DPDP privacy notices

Clear, itemised, multilingual notices that tell people exactly what you collect and why — presented before every request for consent.

What the DPDP Act requires

Under Section 5, every request for consent must be preceded by a notice — what personal data you collect, for what purpose, how a person can exercise their rights, and how to complain to the Data Protection Board — available in English and the languages of the Eighth Schedule.

A buried, bundled, or English-only notice does not meet the standard. The notice must be plain, specific and available in the person’s language.
